The Witcher Season 3 Set Up A Major New Sorceresses Team

The Witcher season 2 left viewers with a major cliffhanger as more groups joined the hunt for Ciri, and among the many things it set up for season 3 is a new team of sorceresses. Netflix has become home to some of the most successful and popular TV shows in recent years, and among those is the first English-language adaptation of The Witcher. Created by Polish author Andrzej Sapkowski, The Witcher is a series of novels and short stories that became widely popular after being adapted to video games, and while the Netflix series is based on the books, from which it takes its characters, places, monsters, and events, it has also taken a lot of creative liberties to create different stories.

The Witcher Season 3 Set Up A Major New Sorceresses Team

The Witcher season 1 followed three different characters (Geralt of Rivia, Yennefer of Vengerberg, and Ciri) in different places and points in time, opting for a non-linear narrative that was confusing at times, but by the end of the season, the paths of these characters converged.

The events of The Witcher season 2 were told linearly and saw Ciri (Freya Allan) being taken to Kaer Morhen by Geralt (Henry Cavill) in order to be trained and to keep her safe from the Nilfgaardian army. Meanwhile, Yennefer (Anya Chalotra) struggled with the loss of her powers, which led her to make a dangerous deal with the Voleth Meir. By the end of The Witcher season 2, Yennefer sacrificed herself to save Ciri from the Voleth Meir, which restored her powers, but Ciri, Geralt, and Yennefer can’t have their happy end just yet.

The end of The Witcher season 2 also revealed that now pretty much the whole Continent is going after Ciri for different (and mostly selfish) reasons, with her biggest enemies right now being The White Flame, who was revealed to be her father, and the Wild Hunt, who made a brief appearance in the final episode. Joining the list of enemies is The Brotherhood of Sorcerers, who in turn set up a new team of sorceresses in The Witcher season 3: The Lodge of Sorceresses.

What The Lodge Of Sorceresses Would Mean For The Witcher Season 3

Tissaia de Vries (Myanna Burning) learned through Triss Merigold (Anna Shaffer) in The Witcher season 2 that Ciri was brought to Kaer Morhen and that she has Elder Blood, which according to their interpretation of the prophecy of Ithlinne, means that Ciri has the power to save or destroy the world.

Although Triss asked Tissaia to keep this information to herself, Tissaia shared it with Vilgefortz, who saw potential in Ciri to end all war. However, Meve pointed out that Ciri was less trouble when she was believed to be dead, so they authorized a bounty on Ciri and anyone protecting her. Now, The Witcher season 3 will be based on the book Time of Contempt, which saw the Thanedd coup, an attack between mages during one of their conclaves in Aretuza.

The mages were secretly divided between supporters of Nilfgaard and the North, and as both planned to catch the other side unaware during the meeting, violence broke out and many were injured or killed, and the Brotherhood of Sorcerers was over.

However, this made way for another group: The Lodge of Sorceresses. This secret organization was formed by female mages, with Philippa Eilhart (played in the series by Cassie Clare) serving as the leader.

Among the members of The Lodge of Sorceresses are Triss Merigold, Sabrina Glevissig, Francesca Findabair, Fringilla, and Yennefer, but while they might seem like a powerful solution to Ciri’s problems as they definitely have the power to keep her safe, in the books, the Lodge of Sorceresses also wanted to use Ciri for the wrong reasons, and ultimately, were no better than Vilgefortz and company.

However, as mentioned above, Netflix’s The Witcher has already deviated a lot from the source material, so the role of the Lodge of Sorceresses could be different in The Witcher season 3 and they could become allies instead of yet another group from which Ciri, Geralt, and Yennefer will have to hide.
