Marvel Cinematic Universe veteran Chris Evans recently shared his reaction to Captain Carter's live-action debut in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.

Evans discussed the character, who is played by his Captain America: The First Avenger co-star Hayley Atwell, in an interview with MTV News. "I haven’t seen [Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness] yet, but I heard [about Captain Carter's role in it]," he said. "I mean [Atwell is] perfect for it… She’s truly just one of the best actresses I’ve ever worked with and just one of the loveliest humans. So, I couldn’t be happier for her."

Captain Carter first appeared in the MCU in the Disney+ animated series What If...?, which establishes her as an alternate universe version of Peggy Carter who was transformed into a super-soldier instead of Steve Rogers. Atwell voiced Captain Carter in What If...? and later reprised the role for a cameo in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. The shield-slinging superhero was ultimately murdered by The Scarlet Witch in that film, suffering the same fate as the rest of Earth-838's Illuminati.

Despite her apparent demise, a Captain Carter spinoff project is rumored to be in development. It's unclear whether this project would be a movie or a TV series, however, it would presumably revolve around yet another incarnation of the character who is still alive. This would track with reports that Captain Carter will return in What If...? Season 2, although it's worth pointing out that Marvel Studios has yet to officially comment on whether a spinoff project is actually in the works.

Atwell herself remains equally tight-lipped about Captain Carter's MCU future. "I have no news for you, sorry," she said, during a panel at Awesome Con 2022. "But I share your enthusiasm. And I would love to feel that, if Marvel did find a home for her, that it's a home that feels worthy of her in terms of [her] evolution as a character and development as a character."

The actor also recently pitched a Peggy Carter spinoff series that chronicled the S.H.I.E.L.D. co-founder's life with Rogers after the events of Avengers: Endgame. "[I]n my mind, Steve’s tired, and he wants to sit down... [Peggy's] been busy, and she’s got things to do. And the great thing is, Cap’s cool with that because he’s a feminist. He’s not insecure about that. He lets her go off and live her best life and fulfill her truest potential because he knows the contribution that she’s got to make in the world, and that makes him even more attractive to her," Atwell said, of the hypothetical show's premise.
