Ukrainian President's wife shares emotional post as Russian troops

Ukrainian President Volodomyr Zelenskyy, along with his family, has decided to stay back in the capital city of Kyiv.

Zelenskyy had in a video statement on Friday said that Russia has marked him as "target number one" and his family as "target number two".

"They [Russia] want to destroy Ukraine politically by destroying the head of state. I will stay in the capital. My family is also in Ukraine," he had told Ukrainians.

The President of Ukraine is being praised for displaying courage and standing by his fellow Ukrainians in the face of the Russian invasion. But he is not the only popular leader trying to comfort the people of Ukraine in this time of crisis.

On Sunday, Ukraine's first lady Olena Zelenska took to Instagram to share a picture of a child born in a bomb shelter in Kyiv.

The wife of Ukrainian President Volodomyr Zelenskyy, Olena Zelenska wrote: "[This child] was born in the Kyiv bomb shelter. Her birth was to take place in completely different conditions, under peaceful skies. It is what children should see.

"But the main thing is that, despite the war, there were doctors and caring people on our streets next to her. She will be protected. Because you are incredible, dear compatriots!"

Olena Zelenska went further to add that Ukrainian citizens managed to build up armed resistance in a mere two days. Not just that, you [Ukrainians] did your job and also took out time to help each other, she added.

Ukraine's first lady said Ukrainians helped their neighbours, offered shelter to those who needed it, donated blood for soldiers and victims and reported the movement of enemy vehicles.

Olena Zelenska concluded her Instagram post by saying, "And children born in bomb shelters will live in a peaceful country that has defended itself."

Zelenska married Volodymyr Zelenskyy in 2003 and have two children together.

She is a vocal advocate of social causes such as gender equality and has also engaged herself in diplomatic work.
